Three Easy Steps To A Great Family Vacation
8/27/2008
When going on a vacation with the family, it is a given that there are many things that should be considered than what clothes to pack and bring. This is especially true when you will be bringing two or more children with you. So to simplify the complicated, the one thing that everyone must do is to plan ahead and settle everything you need beforehand. But where do you start? Here are a few easy steps that may help mom and dad get the ball rolling.
* Choose for your destination. First and foremost, you should be able to decide where you will be going. You cannot just go to the bus terminal or to the airport and choose a trip by going “eeny minie moo.” Your choice of destination must be well thought of.
For one, it must be a place where every member of the family will enjoy and appreciate going to. Mom and dad should keep in mind that the spots they usually go to for their holidays and honeymoons are typically not applicable when there are children around. Such activities just don't match and children would not appreciate simply gazing at the sunset at a tender age.
For families, recommended vacation destinations are theme parks and resorts where both the adults and the children have activities of their own to take pleasure in. After all it is a vacation and everyone should be happy.
* Make a budget. With children or with no children, people can easily splurge and spend all their cash without much thought during vacation only to regret it after and when they get back home. And the best way to spend smart is to plan and prepare a budget that you can follow on your next holiday.
Make a list of your possible expenses including cash on hand that you can simply pull from your pocket for perhaps, a stick of hotdog here and there or a batch of souvenirs to take to family and friends back home. As much as possible make your budget as detailed as you can.
If you believe you can't keep track of the cones of ice cream or drinks that your kids ask you to buy, you can easily prepare and allocate an allowance for them. You can give this to them at the start of the trip and advise that this will be the amount and the only amount they can spend. This can further teach your kids the value of money, the responsibility and accountability of spending within their means.
* Pack thoroughly but lightly. In packing, a list of things to go into the luggage is as much a requirement as any. This would give you a better idea of what you need and what you have. Choose your clothes well. Consider your destination, the weather and the activities you will be doing there. And as much as possible, pack lightly. You would not want to carry a heavy load on your holiday. This can take the fun out of the vacation. Bring a luggage that you can easily carry around wherever your traveling feet may take you.
