Make Sure These Are On Your Checklist Before Going On A Road Trip

8/22/2008

A road trip is a fun way to go on a short vacation or for a weekend getaway. It is enjoyable for the entire family or for a group of friends as you probably drive yourselves across beautiful scenery and get to visit places along the way before ultimately reaching your final destination.

While getting on a plane may be much quicker most especially if the destination is a bit far, nothing beats the fun and relaxing atmosphere that a road trip brings. There is that “adventure” that awaits.

A road trip is a great way to create memories and so you would not want any disasters coming your way. No matter which mode of transportation you use to travel, there is always some risk involved. Of course as long as you prepared, problems along the way can be avoided.

Before heading on your road trip, it is essential for you to check if you have everything you need to bring along with. Plus you must make that your vehicle is in good working condition having gone through a prior check to ensure the safety of all the passengers who will be traveling.

Here is a simple checklist to ensure that you avoid problems along the way and that you have the necessary important items when on the road.

Encountering car related problems may be unavoidable but could be prevented if early on you took the necessary precautionary measures.

1. Have your vehicle checked to ensure road safety.

2. The car's oil level should be checked and if it is necessary to put in more.

3. The car's transmission fluid, brake fluid and other important fluids should as well be checked.

4. Ensure that your car tires have enough air inside them. The tire pressure needed for the tires would depend on the vehicle type.

5. You must have a jack and a spare tire just in case you encounter a flat tire along the way.

6. Check if the car lights, seat belt and wipers are working.

7. The battery must as well be checked and if there are any signs of corrosion on its terminal.

You can never predict what may happen along the way so being prepared will put you in good hands. Some important items to be brought should include a first aid kit, potable water, food (non perishable preferable), blanket, flash light, a tool kit and a blanket to keep you warm should it be cold at night while driving.

Before you leave ensure that you have with you your cash and credit cards (very important to defray expenses), identification, insurance cards and other items you deem important. Don't forget to bring along as well your sunglasses, sunblock, snacks and a pillow to keep you comfy through the entire trip. Of course, the camera should not be forgotten.

If kids or babies will be traveling along, they need to kept entertained. Don't forget to bring along a few toys, games, diapers, bottle feeder and extra clothes. Other accompanying adults can play with them games popularly played on road trips to keep them from getting bored and impatient.
